Company Profile
This company was a well-known entertainment facility with nationally acclaimed entertainers, a four-star hotel and casino gaming just outside of the Twin Cities had some challenges.

The Problem
The Director of Information Systems faced staffing challenges, high demand for additional information systems services from all areas of the company and a looming Windows 2000 migration. He knew he needed a well-trained staff and a plan to move his department forward to meet the growing demand for his area’s services. They also identified other areas of concern about the legacy applications their group was supporting, the projected growth of their organization and industry and the need to hire and retain high quality employees to support the diverse business unit’s technical needs.

How did he prepare? By working with their SMART team.

The Solution
The organization had already established a good working relationship with their SMART team about their Windows 2000 migration training needs. After discovering that their concerns were not limited to Windows 2000, the SMART team helped them to identify and move appropriately in assessing their team.

The SMART team surveyed managers and key staff members to understand the current job roles and current and future IS-related projects. The IS staff was also surveyed to understand their current skill levels and tasks performed on the job. Based on this information, targeted learning plans were created to get the staff’s skill levels to those required by their roles, future career goals and project involvement.
